Sense Over Sectarianism
  • CONTACT US
  • Sense Over Sectarianism is a partnership funded by the Scottish Executive to provide grants for projects or programmes that challenge sectarianism and bigotry in the wider Glasgow area.

The Partners in the project are:

    • Glasgow City Council
    • Nil by Mouth
    • Celtic FC
    • Rangers FC
    • The Glasgow Presbytery of the Church of Scotland
    • The Roman Catholic Archdiocese

The aim of the scheme is to enable people to challenge the existing attitudes, behaviour and assumptions that contribute to bigotry, sectarianism and division within society by promoting positive social integration and encouraging understanding of different cultures and backgrounds.

What Might be Considered for Funding?

There is no set idea of what a project might be. It could be based on sport, drama, art, discussion, music or any other bright idea that you might have.

    Criteria for grants:

    • Grants will be given to individuals over the age of 16
    • Projects must be new - this is not a way to fund existing work.
    • Projects will work towards reducing religious, social and cultural barriers between people and will raise awareness of how language and actions contribute towards sectarianism and bigotry
    • The individual getting the grant will have the opportunity to develop new skills or understanding e.g. managing finances, organisational skills etc.
    • The project must meet the needs of the local community and be of benefit to the community involved in the project.
    • Projects will bring together people from different backgrounds to work towards a common goal.
