Nil by Mouth was delighted to receive a boost this week for our work helping young football fans better understand the passion, pantomime and poison around the game.

The NWH Group awarded the charity a community grant to support the ‘Us & Them’ programme which helps young supporters consider their rights and responsibilities whilst attending matches and consider the impact of sectarian behaviour around grounds.

Nil by Mouth’s Dave Scott collects the donation from Dawn Birtle and Carlos Castilla of NWH at their Midlothian depot.

NWH Group operates primarily in Scotland and Northeast England, serving the whole of Scotland and Newcastle from ten sites. They provide a range of waste management services, including waste collection, recycling, and skip hire, across various locations such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, Stirling, Perth, Dumfries, Kirkcaldy, and Livingston.

Each year the business awards £21,000 to groups across its areas of operations who are working to improve communities and enhance the quality of life of local people. Nil by Mouth will use the award to bring a range of football speakers, including writer Daniel and ex-players Kevin Harper and Zander Murray, to meet groups of teenage fans in schools across the country to help explore the Beautiful Game and consider how they can channel their love of it in a positive fashion.

The project has already ran in six high schools since its launch in 2024 and support from NWH will allow it to reach a further two in 2026.
