The Legends Return

Legends of Scotland’s Junior Football community came together this week to raise money for Nil by Mouth’s battle against bigotry in society.

Players donned their boots to support Nil by Mouth

Retired players from a host of top Junior clubs including Auchinleck Talbot, Clydebank, Ashfield and Arthurlie donned their boots once more to take part in a special 12 team tournament hosted by Benburb FC at their New Tinto Park complex on Saturday 2nd July.

More than 200 fans came along to enjoy the event which saw Arthurlie win the final on penalties to lift the ‘Alex Gourlay Cup’. Members of Alex’s family presented the trophy and more than £800 was donated on the day to support our work in schools and colleges across Scotland.

Nil by Mouth would like to thank the players, teams, officials and supporters who made the day such a success. Special thanks must go to Benburb for hosting and the volunteers who gave so freely or their time to make the day such a success. Special thanks must go to Robert Burns without whose passion for the Juniors the whole event would never have happened.

This was the first Legends event since 2019 and it hoped that after it’s successful return more clubs and fans will get along to next year’s competition where Arthurlie will defend their trophy. This event was a reminder of the passion people have for Scottish Junior Football and the potential the sport has to help build bridges higher than walls.

The competition saw many old friends and rivals reunite.
